What is the fuss?

Over time, investors develop a particular style of picking stocks. Some seek value, some growth. These styles become more nuanced depending on one’s experience and natural inclination.

These styles work well for these investors. Keep doing what you are good at and what suits your financial goal.

Over the past eight years of investing, I have seen many types of Stock Pickers. I have also changed over time, moving from one type to another.

In this edition, I share the top ten most common types of Stock Pickers I have encountered or have been in my investing journey. Let’s get started.

Note: The examples in this edition are stocks listed on the Indian Stock Exchanges.

Type 1: Bets on Underdogs

This type of investor likes betting on underdogs.

Some examples:

The Challengers

A new, fast-growing company is challenging the monopoly in its sector. Yes, please! I will bet on you.

Some challenger companies in the Indian jewellery segment are Senco Gold and Kalyan Jewellers, challenging the Indian jewellery behemoth Titan.
